Dinoblade beginner guide: Spinosaurus controls, SP, stamina, posture basics, and when to fight Kira the Exile. First hours on Steam — verified July 2026.
Launch-day tips: SP priorities, perfect deflects, and boss prep.
Dinoblade launched July 24, 2026 on Steam from indie studio Team Spino LLC and publisher Boltray Games — $19.99 (launch -10%), single-player, with a free demo still live. You play a young Spinosaurus who pulls a huge greatsword from a sacred stone and wakes up before an ancient demon dinosaur god; from there, survival means dodging, blocking, parrying, and breaking posture faster than the armed rival dinosaurs and Alpha predators break yours.
This Dinoblade beginner guide covers controls, how to spend SP on your four attributes, and the first-hour habits that keep you alive long enough to learn the game instead of restarting from a bonfire. Once combat clicks, pair it with the posture system and parry guide before your first real boss attempt. Verified July 24, 2026 · Steam · Discord.
| System | Beginner priority |
|---|---|
| Attacks | Light and strong swings chain into combos — don't empty your stamina bar mid-string |
| Dodge / roll | Grants invincibility frames — time it right before the hit lands, not on reaction |
| Block / perfect deflect | Hold to block; tap at the exact moment of impact for a no-damage perfect deflect |
| SP attributes | Health, Strength, Resonance, Stamina — see the attributes section below |
| Safe stones (rest points) | Heal, refill Resonance, and respawn nearby enemies — a free SP farming loop |
| Red-glow attacks | Cannot be blocked or parried — dodge only, every time |
Dinoblade's combat is straight Souls-like: light and strong attacks chain into short combos, and your dinosaur can't cancel a swing once it starts, so commit carefully instead of button-mashing into an Alpha's counter.

Light attacks are fast and safe to throw out; strong (heavy) attacks hit harder but have real wind-up and recovery, so whiffing one against a boss usually burns half your stamina bar for nothing. Dodge rolls grant invincibility frames, but only if you time the roll right as the hit lands — rolling on reaction to the wind-up just moves you into the attack instead of through it.
Every attack that flashes red ignores block and parry entirely. The game's own loading-screen tips call this out directly: dodge red attacks, full stop — don't waste a parry attempt on one.
Holding block cuts incoming damage but slows your stamina recovery while it's up. Time the block for the exact frame the hit connects and you land a perfect deflect: zero damage taken, faster stamina and Resonance regen, and — against most enemies — a counterattack window. Bosses run on the same posture gauge covered in the posture system guide: perfect deflects and heavy hits chip that bar down until the boss staggers for a big punish.
On mouse and keyboard, dodge and sprint share the same key with no separate rebind option as of launch — early reviewers flagged this as a real early-hours annoyance, so expect a few accidental sprints when you meant to roll. If a boss's wide swings keep clipping the edge of your screen, check the camera distance option in settings; several players reported zooming the camera out further makes reading big telegraphed attacks noticeably easier.
Killing enemies and collecting SP pickups both feed the same pool. You spend it across four attributes, and where those first points go shapes how forgiving your opening hours feel.

| Attribute | What it does | Beginner priority |
|---|---|---|
| Health | Raises max HP — your buffer against mistakes | 1st |
| Stamina | Fuels attacking, dodging, and blocking without gassing out | 1st (tie) |
| Strength | Increases weapon damage | 2nd — once hits stop feeling scary |
| Resonance | Fuels Soul Art skills like Meteor Slice and Alpha Roar | 3rd — once combat feels comfortable |
Put your first several level-ups into Health and Stamina. You're still learning enemy timing and controls, and extra health buys room for mistakes while extra stamina means more dodges, blocks, and recoveries per fight. Hold off on Strength and Resonance until your health and stamina pools feel steady in a fight, not before.
Resting at a safe stone heals you, fully restores Resonance, and respawns nearby enemy groups — so a safe stone surrounded by a pack of weaker dinosaurs is a repeatable SP loop: clear them, rest, repeat. You can also return to your last checkpoint from the options menu instead of running back manually, which lets you push further out before resetting the farm. Stuck on an early fight? A few farming laps for extra SP beats grinding the same death run over and over.
Your first hours decide whether Dinoblade feels fair or brutal. Slow down, read enemy patterns before you commit, and don't rush Kira the Exile at low SP just to see the fight.
Single-player — confirmed on the Steam store listing.
Yes, a free demo is still available. See the demo walkthrough for what it covers.
Health, Strength, Resonance, and Stamina — spend early points on Health and Stamina first.
Rest at a safe stone near a respawning enemy group, clear it, rest again, and repeat — it also refills Resonance.
Be careful. Early reviewers found some remaps can lock inputs to "none" with no easy undo — change one binding at a time and delete the save file if you get soft-locked.
